CARRBORO, N.C. -- After a national search, Interim Town Manager Marie Parker has announced Bret Greene as Finance Director for the Town of Carrboro.
Greene has worked for 16 years for Highwoods Properties in Raleigh, where he oversees a staff team of 11 employees and manages a $500 million annual budget. As Director of Financial Planning and Analysis, he supervises office management across the company’s corporate headquarters and satellite offices; and assists in the planning, budgeting, and execution of construction projects.
For the Town of Carrboro, Greene will supervise the town’s financial operations and reporting of all municipal funds including budget, audit, cash management, and debt management in compliance with state law. He starts in Carrboro on Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2024.
“Bret brings a wealth of experience and expertise to this role,” Parker said. “I'm confident that Bret's leadership, financial acumen, and community spirit will be instrumental in ensuring the sound financial management of our town’s resources.”
Greene holds a master’s degree in business administration, with an emphasis in finance from UNC-Chapel Hill, and a bachelor’s degree in economics and finance from Elon University, where he graduated with honors. Additionally, he holds leadership roles with the Urban Land Institute, the Duke School, and Educate Tomorrow’s Parents; and has acquired certifications from the Racial Equity Institute and the Center for Creative Leadership.
