Winter Weather Update for 9 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22 -- The Town of Carrboro’s administrative offices will delay opening until 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, due to inclement weather and hazardous driving conditions following last night’s snow storm. Solid waste collections are canceled and will resume Thursday, Jan. 23. Please remove containers from the street and put them back out in the morning.
With temperatures struggling to get above freezing today, hazardous driving conditions will be possible where accumulated snow has fallen. Drivers and pedestrians should expect slick conditions. Extremely cold weather is expected through Thursday morning.

Roads
- Town of Carrboro Public Works is responsible for responding and reducing winter weather related roadway hazards. Public Works crews applied a blend of salt and sand last night to the primary routes. Crews are treating the remainder of the roads, as well as cleaning up around town facilities this morning. Please be patient as Public Works does this work. They have two spreaders to treat the entire town, and it takes some time to get around to all the roads. Depending on how the day progresses, crews may plow off what slush remains when it is a bit warmer and the salt has more effect.
- Assess conditions before heading out.
- Avoid unnecessary trips when roads and walkways are slick or expected to become slick.
- Use extra caution on hills and when approaching intersections.
- Be aware of pedestrians and drivers.
Streets and Sidewalks
The town does not remove snow or ice from residential sidewalks in town but will clear sidewalks and parking lots around town facilities as time allows. Property and business owners are responsible for snow and ice removal on sidewalks in front of structures they own or occupy and for their parking lots and driveways, where snow may accumulate due to plowing.
Stay safe out there, Carrboro!
