CARRBORO, NC -- On Tuesday, Aug. 20 at about 5:30 p.m., members of the Carrboro Fire-Rescue Department responded to an automatic fire alarm at Breakaway Cafe located at the Shelton Station building located at 410 N. Greensboro St. While en route to the incident was upgraded to a structure fire.
Responding fire crews arrived in just over three minutes and found a two-story commercial structure. No smoke or flames were visible at the time. Crews investigated and determined that there was a fire in the kitchen . Fire damage was limited to an appliance within the kitchen and other miscellaneous contents. Initial damage estimates are approximately $15,000.
One civilian was transported to UNC Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries caused by the fire. There were no firefighter injuries
The cause of the fire was determined to be repair work that was being completed on an appliance. The Carrboro Fire-Rescue Department received assistance at the scene from the Chapel Hill Fire Department. The White Cross Fire Department assisted with coverage during the fire.
